When the Fuke-shu sect(普化宗)was abolished in 1871, the Komuso disappeared and Myoanji was also no exception.
However, in 1959, it was revived as a religious corporation the Fukeseisyu Myoanji temple (普化正宗明暗寺). It means to go around for indoctrination after completing the training that was the original purpose. Furthermore, indoctrination is a concept derived from Buddhism that guides people in peace through good deeds.
You can see the Komuso musicians playing shakuhachi at temple events. Please check their schedule !
