Awa Odori has over 400 years of history
Awa Odori(Odori means dance, 阿波踊り)is a traditional performing art in Tokushima prefecture that is said to have over 400 years of history. It used to be a simple Bon dance to comfort the souls of the dead, but eventually, it has evolved into a performance that embodies power, skill and beauty.
Musical accompaniment is called “Zomeki(ぞめき)
The flute, shamisen and drum perform alongside the dance. This musical accompaniment is called “Ohayashi(お囃子)”, especially Awa dance’s musical accompaniment is called “Zomeki(ぞめき)”, and the meaning is to float and make noise.
Among them, Shinobue has an important role to play in the main tune of Zomeki. Various Zomeki are depending on the group, and it is unique and interesting.
