Japanese Furyu-Odori collection was approved on November 30, 2022, in addition to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
Furyu-Odori is a performance, with people dancing to the accompaniment of singing and musical instruments such as Shinobue, Taiko drum, and Kane.
Among the dances are Gujo Odori, Shiroishi Odori, and Nishimonai Bon Odori, etc.
Many Furyu-Odori date to the Edo period (1603-1867) or earlier, and developed in various regions as events to pray for good harvests and ward off bad luck.
